Mountain View Lutheran School

Academics

  • It is our goal to help all children develop an understanding and love for their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ while learning the skills they need to succeed both now and in the future. Mountain View Lutheran School has adopted elements of Core Knowledge, Common Core State Standards, Nevada State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards as the foundations for the written curriculum in Preschool through Grade 5.

  • Mountain View Lutheran as a whole has obtained several voluntary improvement opportunities via the accreditation processes. With accreditations through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation, Mountain View Lutheran will be the first and only school in Nevada accredited through Western Association of Schools and Colleges, leading the way for schools throughout Nevada and the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to do the same through the rigorous process of accreditation.

  • The reading and writing program at Mountain View Lutheran School has an emphasis on phonics, and reading readiness. Other points of emphasis include developmental thinking, mathematical relationships, religion, and beginning science and social studies concepts.

Children continue to develop skills in relationship-building and maintaining a positive attitude towards learning in a more structured school setting, which includes the development of personal responsibility. This developmental process requires parent and teacher dedication and consistent communication.

  • The education of the student in the elementary grades is based on the need for a firm foundation of basic knowledge to further develop the tools necessary to function successfully in the broadened scope of education. Each classroom is self-contained, with the classroom teacher responsible for instruction in all of the core subject areas, religion, and physical education. Departmentalization in the specialty areas of band, music, visual arts, library, and computers serve to enable the students to have a well-rounded and balanced educational experiences, as the classroom and specialty teachers collaborate to more fully enrich learning.

All curricular areas are approached from a distinctly Christian point of view and presented using means which make education creative, meaningful, and personal.

The vast majority of students who graduate Mountain View Lutheran continue their education at Faith Lutheran Middle School, for which MVLS is the feeder school in the northwest part of the Las Vegas Valley. We are proud to send students who are firm in their faith, strong in confidence and character, and well-prepared for the eventual rigors of prestigious, high school programs.
