With a wide variety of ministries tailored to all ages,
there is always something for you to be involved in at
Mountain View Lutheran.

Check out our many ministries below and find out how you can get connected!

 Our Ministries

  • The Altar Guild works behind the scenes to ensure that the church is ready for worship on Sunday mornings. Some of our responsibilities include:

    Preparing communion

    Changing banners

Keeping hymnals and Bibles facing forward in the pews

    Special Holiday Preparations

For major holidays we come together as a team and decorate the church. For the Easter season, we will strip the Altar on Maundy Thursday, reset for Good Friday, and decorate our Easter cross that Saturday. Christmas time brings all of the Altar Guild members together once again to decorate and get our candles ready for the candlelight service on Christmas Eve.

How do you want to serve?

We divide the duties to offer more options. Some people might only be interested in our pew ministry (keeping cards available in the pews, Bibles facing forward, etc.). Others might be more interested in getting communion ready or maintaining the altar. Whatever the task, all is done to the glory of God.

    Scheduling

Two to three people are needed a month at a time if you are involved in communion and altar set up. One person is needed for pew ministry. The more people get involved, the more scheduling preferences we can accommodate.

The Altar Guild is a wonderful way to serve our Lord, and it is a blessing to be involved. One-on-one training will be done for anyone deciding to join.

  • Every Sunday at 9:30am we offer an Adult Bible Study, as well as High School and Middle School Bible Studies!

There are also bible studies offered throughout the week! Check out our Church Calendar to see what our current bible studies are!

If you would like to start a bible study or request a topic for our next bible study contact churchoffice@mvlcs.org

  • We are here to help our members connect, care, and share through Christ as we build relationships with each other. Here’s what we can do together:

    Create A Welcoming Church Environment
Try to spot a new face or family in church on Sunday. Saying a simple “hello,” or “good morning,” could make quite a difference to a new person. Remember how important God’s relationship with His people is and how God desires for all to be welcomed in His house.

    Celebrate Birthdays
Check out our birthday calendar located in the narthex. Use the calendar to send birthday cards to other members or wish them a “happy birthday,” when you see them in church. What a great way to build each other up in life’s celebrations!

    Say “Thank You”
Have you ever seen someone go above and beyond and think they should be thanked officially? Please drop a note in the box in the narthex with the person’s name and what they did. We would love to send them a thank you so they know they are appreciated.

    Welcome New Members
Sponsor a new member and help them acclimate to Mountain View Lutheran. Pray for them and encourage them in Christian service through our church.

    Support Our Confirmation Students
Choose a confirmation student and become a secret prayer partner. Pray for the student, send encouraging cards or notes throughout the year, and bring them a special gift when you reveal yourself at the confirmation banquet in the spring.

    Meal Trains And Potlucks
We use mealtrain.com to help put together meals for those who are overwhelmed by life events such as a death of a loved one, major illness in the family, or welcoming a new family member into the home. We also work with the Fellowship ministry to organize food for receptions for funerals or other functions which require meals to feed large groups of people.

    Care For Our Military
Prayers and care packages are sent to church and school members who are deployed defending our country.

    Pastor And Staff Appreciation
We are so thankful for all our staff at MVLCS. It’s important to let them know how much they are appreciated and encourage them as they serve in their various ministries. The Care Committee helps during pastor appreciation month & staff appreciation week, along with other times throughout the year with gifts and meals.

  • We are always on the lookout for those who have a heart for teaching children! Whether you want to teach, assist, lead craft time, provide snacks, or help set-up and clean-up, we can find a place for you!

We offer a variety of Children’s Ministry opportunities throughout the year.

    Sunday School
For kids age 3 – 8th grade, held every Sunday at 9:30am.

    Nursery
Between services and during our Education and Equipping Hour, we offer a nursery for children under the age of 3!

    Special Holiday Events
Christmas and Easter are busy times for our Children’s Ministries, with programs and events going on! We love to have our children as a part of our worship services!

    VBS
During the summer we offer Vacation Bible School, where kids from all over the Las Vegas Valley are invited to come and learn about Jesus while having a blast! Everyone especially looks forward to WATER DAY!

  • Here at Mountain View Lutheran, we love being able to help teach and guide our middle school-aged youth on their faith journeys! Confirmation classes prepare our baptized youth to publicly profess their faith by going through Luther’s Small Catechism over a two-year period. During this time, our youth meet with our pastors once a week to talk about the foundations of the faith.

After the first year, confirmands (the youth who are participating in confirmation classes) are able to receive first Communion. At the end of the second year, we hold a banquet for the confirmands and their families to celebrate the completion of their classes!

During these classes the confirmands will be trained how to be Acolytes so that they have the opportunity to participate in future worship services. Acolytes are in charge of lighting candles, carrying certain processional items, and putting out candles during our Traditional Service.

  • The Elders assist the pastors in overseeing the spiritual life of the congregation and its individual members.

Are you in need of help, prayer, spiritual guidance, or just need someone to talk to? We have a wonderful group of Elders who would love to connect with you.

Once becoming a member, you will become a part of an Elder’s “flock.” Your Elder will check in on you from time to time to make sure you’re doing okay. And if you’re not, they will help you in any way that they can.

  • First impressions are often lasting impressions. Consequently, the ministry of the First Impressions Team is one of the most important ministries for visitors and new members!

    Greeters
Create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for all who enter

Greet our visitors, guests, and congregation at the door with a warm smile and a hand shake

Give directions, information, or introductions as needed

Make guests feel comfortable – introduce them to others they may have something in common with, or invite them to sit with you

    Ushers
Continue our welcoming atmosphere and ensure the smooth operation of Sunday worship

    Greet each person

Give direction on seating, as necessary

Encourage those still in the narthex to join worship when the first song begins

    Dismiss people for communion

    Welcome Center
Provide information and directions to our visitors and guests

Have visitors and guests fill out a registration card or the guest book

Tell them about relevant announcements and upcoming events

Help them find the Nursery, Sunday School, and Bible studies

Introduce guests to others you know who may be nearby

Offer the guest any information we may have

Invite them back, and thank them for worshiping with us

  • With a variety of musical offerings throughout the year, our Music Ministry is always welcoming new singers and musicians! Beginners are welcome. We have a wonderful Worship Director, who also teaches music at our school!

    Choir & Handbells
Choir and Handbells both meet from the fall through the spring and sing/play during the worship services periodically throughout the year, as well as at the Palm Sunday/Easter Cantata. Childcare is provided during practices, and beginners are welcome!

Monday rehearsals typically take place at 6pm for choir and at 7pm for handbells.

Contact Christin Schlicker for more information.

    Praise Band
Vocalists and instrumentalists can help lead the congregation in praising God each week through contemporary worship music at our 10:30am service.
If you would like to join our praise band or if you have any questions contact the Church Office!

    Special Holiday Performances
Are you a singer or musician? Let us know if you would like to share your talents with us!

If you have a piece you would like to share in either or both of our worship services, or during Lenten or Advent services on Wednesday evenings, please don’t hesitate to contact Christin to get started!

  • During each worship service we read the Word of God together. Our Readers help lead us through selected Scriptures during our 8:00am Traditional Services.

As a Reader you are emailed the readings for that Sunday to help you prepare and practice.

This position is great for people who enjoy public speaking and sharing the Word of the Lord!

  • Our sound room volunteers help us stream services on Facebook Live, run the sound board, and run the slides.

No prior experience is necessary, we offer one-on-one training with our highly-knowledgeable sound room volunteers. They will help you to become comfortable in whatever position you would like to volunteer to do!

  • We believe that we are all servants of the living God, and as such, we are all called to serve Him and one another – no matter our age. As our youth, you are not just our future, you are our now!

We have two youth groups here at Mountain View Lutheran! Our Middle School Youth Group is for our youth ages 11-13. We meet on the second Sunday of the month at 3:00pm in the Youth Room on campus!

Our High School Youth Group is for youth ages 14-18. We meet on the first and last Sunday of the month at 3:00pm in the Youth Room on campus!

Join us as we dig deeper into God’s Word, explore our faith, and enjoy serving our community together! If you have any questions you can email Pastor Brad!
