where we have been...where we are going
built on the foundation of christ
Mountain View Lutheran Preschool is an educational ministry of Mountain View Lutheran Church, which opened its doors in 1958 near downtown Las Vegas. Then at Charleston and Decatur, the congregation thrived, and by 1991 voted to add a preschool. Together, the church and preschool quickly outgrew the Decatur location.
Only three years after opening the school's doors, the decision was made to break ground on a new church and school campus. The new (and current) location opened in 1997, with the intention to start an elementary school. A supportive church congregation held services in the new gymnasium until the current sanctuary was constructed, centered around a vast stained-glass window impossible for passers-by to miss when driving down West Cheyenne Ave.
School bells signaled the first day for our inaugural Kindergarten class in August of 1998. Each new year added another grade to the school until that initial class graduated fifth grade, and moved on to high school.
The vast majority of students who graduate Mountain View Lutheran have continued their education at Faith Lutheran Middle School, for which MVLS is the only feeder school in this part of Las Vegas. We are proud to send students who are firm in their faith, strong in confidence and character, and well-prepared for the rigors of prestigious high school programs.
Serving the school as its administrator and elementary principal since 2014 is Kris Schneider, who came to Mountain View Lutheran with 19 years of educational experience, 13 of which were spent as an administrator in northern California. Preschool Director, Donna Einspahr, came on board to begin the 2016–2017 school year and has since refined our program to serve the students with the most healthy, developmentally appropriate, and beneficial education philosophies.
Mountain View Lutheran as a whole, has obtained several voluntary improvement opportunities via the accreditation processes. With accreditations through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and National Lutheran Schools Accreditation, Mountain View Lutheran will be the first and only school in Nevada accredited through Western Association of Schools and Colleges, leading the way for schools throughout Nevada and the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to do the same through the rigorous process of accreditation.
Mountain View Lutheran School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.
OUR GOAL at Mountain View is to bring the saving grace of Christ to His people. Through weekly worship, small group studies, family activities, youth group, Sunday School, and fellowship, we aim to teach people about their Savior and surround them with a Cloud of Witnesses - a family of believers to love, support, and encourage them in their faith walk. Together, we enjoy the freedom we have in Christ and the joy found in the knowledge of our eternal salvation.
